Twitter Hit by Cyber Attack

Social media giant Twitter says it was hacked this week, in a sophisticated cyber attack that exposed the passwords and other information of about 250,000 users. The company said in a blog post Friday that it had detected unauthorized attempts to gain access to its user data. The site's information security director, Bob Lord, said Twitter employees discovered one live attack and shut it down in process moments later. Twitter said it reset passwords and that it was notifying affected users. Unlike the New York Times and Wall Street Journal newspapers, which said they were attacked by Chinese hackers this week, Twitter did not provide any information on where the hacking had originated. But Lord said in the posting that the attack was "not the work of amateurs," and that Twitter does not believe it was an isolated incident. He called the attackers "extremely sophisticated." The company said it is working with government and federal law enforcement in their effort to track down the attackers to make the Internet safer for all users. News by VOA News.

More US Meningitis Cases Could Be Linked to Massachusetts Company

A medical specialist says more U.S. meningitis infections could be discovered now that federal officials have raised concerns about additional drugs made by the producer of a tainted medication linked to the initial cases. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says it is investigating a possible meningitis case in a patient who received a spinal injection, as well as two cases in which heart transplant patients contracted fungal infections. All three patients received drugs produced by the New England Compounding Center, which is under investigation for the meningitis outbreak that has killed 15 people. Dr. William Schaffner, the chairman of Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Department of Preventive Medicine, said the full extent of the outbreak caused by the contaminated drugs may not be known for weeks. "We are in the middle of a phenomenon. We are not near to the end of this investigation yet," Schaffner said. Federal health officials say the deaths from fungal meningitis and more than 200 cases of illness are believed to be linked to the tainted steroid medication produced by the Massachusetts compounding pharmacy. With media now reporting that other medications produced by the company may have infected at least three people, health officials are advising doctors to contact all patients who were injected with drugs made by the company. Schaffner says the new warnings indicate there could be widespread contamination. "Our worst fears appear to be realized. We have been concerned from the beginning that if one kind of medication was contaminated, is it possible that other kinds of medications also were contaminated. Now, the FDA does not say that definitively, but they have given us a heads-up that that is likely," Schaffner said. He says the cases show the FDA needs to extend its regulatory authority over compounding pharmacies, which custom-mix specific doses of approved medications to meet the needs of individual patients. Schaffner says compounding pharmacies should be held to the same standards as other pharmaceutical manufacturers. Meningitis infects membranes protecting the brain and spinal cord. The current outbreak is affecting people in at least 15 states. News by

Conservative vs. Liberal

Many people do not really understand the difference between a conservative and a liberal. How do you really know which side of the spectrum you fall on? In this article, we are going to explain some of the differences, so that as political figures are discussing conservative and liberal ideals you know exactly what is going on. The first side of the issue is the conservative side. The conservatives tends to want to preserve things they way they are, for example they dislike change, and do not want things to change in the way the country is run, how people come into power, and how civil rights are handed out. Conservatives appreciate in real terms the importance of building and maintaining the economy to the benefit of society as a whole. Many conservatives are also considered to appreciate having an exclusive inner circle that controls the entire country, although in mainstream politics this is rarely a salient feature. Many conservatives also live by the ideals that institutions that have been successful rather than dwelling on mistakes. This has the effect of working towards improvement in efficiency, which is another key factor of Conservative thought. Many conservatives do not think technology is our friend; they feel that technology should not be a part of government standards and ideas based on the inefficiency it brings. Many conservatives are also very cautious people, which is reflected in the opinions and decisions of their politics. Liberals on the other hand are very much different. Most liberals are very open to change, almost to a fault; they do not mind the ideas of change as long as it is for a perceived good cause, even where there is no practical utilitarian upshot. Liberals tend to be willing to take more risks than most conservatives are in the whimsical pursuit of change. Most liberals are also very tolerant of behavior different from their own, as well as they are willing to open their minds to new ideas and concepts easier than the conservative counterparts. Liberals also like to push for change without necessarily having a justification for their actions. Liberals tend to be very progressively thinking people, whom are quite open to the new ideas of technology in terms of normal daily life, as well as in the role of assisting the government in managing the country to the best of our ability. However, their emphasis on extreme individual freedom means a more distant form of governance that leaves society to regulate itself without much intervention. This has led to numerous political and social problems for liberal governments across the world. While there are some major differences in the two sides, there are also many people who fall somewhere in the middle. Many people are able to pull their comfort zone from taking pieces of each side. While some people are hesitant of change, they are able to accept change in order to make things better for everyone. For example, women's rights were the result of change. Many conservatives were against the ideals of women being allowed to vote. On the flip side, some liberals are in favor of the legalization of drugs, and are wholeheartedly against government regulation in the way we live our lives. While there are many differences in the ideals of the two groups, there is also a bond that forges from each side being determined to make life the best possible for the people in the areas with which they are concerned. Neither side sets out to hurt the other side, nor the people they are responsible for helping. There are times when the goals of both sides do come together nicely and result in wonderful progress for our cities, nation, and country as a whole. Looking to the future, we can expect both sides to continue to change and progress as things change and the future becomes reality.

If the Levee Breaks, Do you say Climate Change?

I got an email today, it came from across the world. It spoke of hurricanes, tornados and storm. It talked of floods and rain. If the levee breaks, just say climate change. China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Thailand, Brazil, Australia and the levee goes on and on and on and on. What is all about, what is your view on that? Well we should have to measure water volume, flow and precitations, we should consider where the water is coming from. But first is first aid the people, and prevent the floods, of course, of course. Very scientific indeed. And so they wanted politics, but everyone knows politics is water. Or what do you think the l'eau éternelle is? "Can you see me know?" Another unknown man in a hat said on the phone on the streets, last night. I was walking through Buenos Aires then. Believe me it not a city that becomes flooded, unless it rains of course. Here too when the levee breaks, they say climate change. Not global warming, because global warming is offensive. You know all the science debacle and all that, stuff. If the levee breaks, everyone just says climate change. Never mind the people who drown under the salty waters? They flood my mind, every day how can I not mind them. With words a life jacket can I build? Never mind the sun that shines hard and steady? Never mind, the news channel? How can I not if they drip the flow every moment of this absurd life, which has noabsorption. Read books, listen to music and hope that the levee in your town does not break. If the levee breaks, just say climate change. "It is value for return and you get what you paid for." That sounds karmic, but it is an editorial foot note. Nothing to do with more science indeed. But man, do not expect me to put my finger in levee and hold the flood. See there is nothing I can really do, if the levee breaks, everybody just says, climate change. As if those words would help me get through the day. Better go to Chicago, there jazz is the night. There they travel the parties. There the levee does not break. For me there is are no floods yet. Just a man who hammers the floor upstairs (which just happens to be my roof). He hammers my patience away from 9 to 5. Sometimes I wonder if he is building a tunnel. Sometimes I wonder if the floor of his flat, (which happens to be my roof) will break. And if it does breaks, will then they say, it was climate change? Got a mail today, it came from across the world. It spoke of hurricanes, tornados and storm. It talked of floods and rain.

London train commuters get free entertainment

Train passengers at a London train station recently got a little more than train arrival and departing announcements when, during such announcements, they were entertained by a couple having a 'solid session' broadcast live over the the public address system. The 'entertainment' was caused by a 'cross-frequency' incident on the PA system. Along with the train announcements passengers got the grunts and groans in full living audio. On the platforms, passenger enjoyed the show and even train drivers kept the train doors open for as long as possible. Some passengers took notes. No doubt, a good time was had by all.
